South Mountain Community College (SMCC) is partnering with Career Step to introduce two new online non-credit programs designed to provide students with the training they need for careers in the fields of medical coding and billing and medical transcription.
Students are invited to attend a free orientation session about the new programs on January 24, 2012 at SMCC, and those who choose to enroll will receive a free laptop computer.
Classes are offered entirely online, and are self-paced. Students may begin their program at any time, and have up to a full year for completion.
Career Step is a leading online education company focused on the allied healthcare market, specializing in medical billing and transcription.

When a parent chooses to enrol a child in a preschool education setting, the parent must take steps to ensure the safety of the child. For parents who have children with allergies, this can be scary. However, if parents have children with allergies in preschool, there are some precautions that can be taken.
First, parents should teach the child at an early age to speak up about the allergy. A child should be taught to refuse the item he is allergic to no matter who offers it. For children who are too young to talk, parents can place a small bracelet on the arms to indicate the allergy.
Next, parents need to set up a meeting to discuss the allergy with the director of preschool education and all of the teachers who have contact with the child. It is important for all teachers to know about the allergy in case the child’s regular teacher is absent or unavailable.

A former Abilene schools superintendent who was knocked unconscious in an apparent carjacking at a hotel parking lot in Dallas is expected to recover, according to reports.
Charles Hundley, 70, was found unconscious and bleeding at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the Best Western at 4150 North Central Expressway, according to Dallas police.
Hundley, who served as superintendent of the Abilene Independent School District from 1988 to 2000, was listed as being in the intensive care unit at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas late Friday.
A witness told police that she first saw Hundley arrive in the parking lot in a 2009 Chevy Impala.

Police are probing financial irregularities at the body responsible for Catholic schools in Northern Ireland.
The Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS), which is the advocate for Catholic maintained schools and is the largest employer of teachers in Northern Ireland, has handed over internal documents to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
This paper understands that the body, which receives 4m annual funding from the Department of Education, has identified issues over expenses and subsistence claims.
A former employee, who is at the centre of the investigation, could not be contacted last night.
It follows the findings of an internal audit that was carried out for Holywood-based CCMS by the North Eastern Education and Library Board.
The Northern Ireland Audit Office also flagged up anomalies through the National Fraud Initiative.
