University of Southern Maine Professor Mark Silber will present a talk at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College entitled “Herbs! How to grow them and what to do with them.” The talk takes place on Thursday, June 2, from 2 pm – 3 pm in USM LAC’s room 285 and is free and open to the public.
Professor Silber is a master gardener and owner of Hedghog Hill Farm in Sumner. In 2005 his farm was selected as one of only six farms in New England as Yankee Magazine’s Editor’s Choice for farms to visit. He is the co-author of several books including “A Small Farm in Maine” and “Growing Herbs and Vegetables from Seed to Harvest.” Silber’s talk will discuss planting and cultivation methods of herbs and the different various ways to use these herbs in everyday life.

With graduation around the corner, Nazarene Bible College is getting ready in a variety of ways. The gardens are being tended, fresh paint is being applied to the buildings, and the lawns are being mowed bringing the fresh cut grass smell back to campus. It definitely brings back memories of warm weather and sunshine giving those who work on campus a feeling of happiness and excitement for what’s to come. Invitations are being prepared and sent out and guests are preparing travel arrangements for their journey ahead.
New merchandise has also just arrived at the NBC bookstore for graduates, alumni, students, and visitors who will be passing through. With a brand-new look and design, there are several colors and styles to please just about anyone.

A sigh of satisfaction and relief was heard on campus Wednesday afternoon as Nazarene Bible College’s long awaited Higher Learning Commission Accreditation visit was officially over. During the all-campus meeting in Strickland Chapel where faculty and staff were presented with the summary of the HLC site visit team’s report, there were several “Praise the Lord” and “Hallelujahs” heard on this blessed and historical day for our college. After investigating the in’s and out’s of our school, the team decided to recommend, to the Commission, that NBC’s accreditation as a Bible College be extended for 10 years, which is the maximum time allowed, and something we desperately wanted to achieve. “This essentially gives the college a clean bill of health, which is not easy to come by these days.” Dr. Harold B. Graves Jr. said.
