The Ben Davis High School Marching Band has hit yet another high note: It was recently invited to perform at the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif., on Jan. 2.
This will be the seventh time that the Westside high school has been invited to participate in the prestigious event: The Marching Giants went to the Rose Parade in 1963, 1972, 1979, 1985, 1991 and 2006.
“It’s quite an honor,” associate band director David Cole said. “We’ve had a Rose Bowl parade each decade for the past 50 years.”
To help raise money for the trip, the band will hold a free ice cream social at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the football stadium at Ben Davis High, 1200 N. Girls School Road.
Tournament of Roses President Richard Jackson will speak at 7 p.m. and present the school with a special flag marking the occasion.
