Chris Garner Benefit Auction

For those of you that haven’t followed the story of Minnesota-Duluth equipment manager Chris Garner, earlier this year, he was diagnosed with a long-named disease essentially known as pre-leukemia and needed to undergo a bone marrow transplant to help prolong his life.

The good news is that Garner was able to undergo chemotherapy and receive a bone transplant in August, and has since been recovering nicely, including making his first trip back to Duluth last weekend to watch UMD defeat Providence. Kevin Pates does better justice to the story here.

The bad news for Garner is that his extensive medical work wasn’t 100% covered by insurance, and the combination of having to move away from home and not being able to work for many months has left him in some rough financial shape.

St. Cloud State equipment manager Jeremiah Minkel has helped put together an auction with some pretty cool hockey merchandise to help Garner out. You can learn more about the auction through this YouTube video put together by Minkel.

The website for the auction is WWW.OBERMANAUCTION.COM and it begins on October 24th. There’s a pretty impressive list of donated items from both college and the NHL–which I will post after the jump–and it’s helping out someone that really needs it, so check it out.
