As Linda’s arguments become increasingly compelling and her opponent pouts, my ODDS on this race have dropped to a slender 6/5 in favor of Gause from the opening 10/1. Schaich has made believers out of most voters she has touched but must meet with more more to win.
Coastal Manatee County’s POPULATION of 327,000 varies widely during the year. When people would be early-voting or making up their minds regarding the August 14 ballot, the estimated residents-in-county on August 1 number 190,000. Snow birds have little effect on the August elections, and the small number of residents available to vote means that year-round residents have great control over local elections. The reason these figures are important is that if any of the August elections with three or more candidates fail to draw 50%, the top two candidates roll over to the Novmber 6 General Election. Candidates in this situation then have to account for the snow bird influx and mount another campaign. Running for office in Manatee can get complicated!
