Gastonguay Exhibit Featured in Atrium Art Gallery

Art work by 43 adults and children, all students of local art teacher Mercedes Gastonguay, were recently featured in an exhibition at the Atrium Art Gallery at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College.  The exhibition included oils, drawings, pastels, and watercolors.

Joyce Gibson, dean of USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College gave an address to the over-350 guests attending the opening reception on Friday, July 16.  Paul Gastonguay and Sandra Heutz-Lee gave tributes to Mercedes Gastonguay to honor her many years of teaching and dedication to her students. Awards were given for outstanding work from the over 70 paintings and drawings in the exhibition.  Best of show was awarded to Sarah Patrie.

For ages 9 & under, first and second place went to Eisa Lee, third place to Shaelyn Poulin, and honorable mentions to James Belleau and Charlotte Gastonguay.

Sidney Sirois placed first in the 10-11 age group with second going to Matthew Maguire, third to John Van Dyke, and honorable mentions to Caroline Gastonguay, Matthew Maguire, Ross Poulin, Shannon Roy, Sydney Sirois, and Tawni Zamrock.

For ages 12-13, first place was awarded to Bernadette Racine, second place to Anya Lee, third place to Tabitha Porter, and honorable mentions to Bella Bennett, Francesca-Beth Haines, Max Poulin, and Bernadette Racine.

First and second place in the 14-18 age category went to Alex Hood, third place to Kayla Larrivee, and honorable mention to Alexandria Wilson.

Adult award winners were Marie Marquis for first place, Patricia Poulin for second, Colleen Rioux for third and honorable mention to Ronald Bosse, Selia Dubois, Lorraine Lamare, Marie Marquis, Claire Metivier, Mariette Pare, and Colleen Rioux.

Judges were Linda Pomerantz, retired Edward Little High School art teacher, and Elaine Toutain, retired Lewiston Elementary Schools Art Specialist.

The Atrium Art Gallery is located at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College, 51 Westminster Street, in Lewiston.  All exhibits are free and open to the public.
